El Salvador’s best handicrafts come from the mountain village of La Palma north of San Salvador. La Palma’s most prominent artist, Fernando Llort, is world-famous for his colorful naïve paintings depicting Salvadoran village life. Fernando Llort’s work can be seen in the Arbol de Dios gallery in San Salvador. Artisans’ cooperatives in La Palma produce a range of hand-painted wooden items that combine pre-Hispanic and Spanish designs. El Salvador is also known for its ceramics and textiles. The country’s main theatrical and dance venue is the Teatro Nacional in San Salvador.
